November 2012 election endorsement process

WC CAN is looking for candidates who understand how governmental planning benefits from good citizen involvement; how protection of farm, forest and natural resource lands complements building and rebuilding of livable urban communities; and the importance of education, social equity, and health to a sustainable future.  And we want to have confidence that candidates can operate successfully adhering to such principles – that they are change agents in the direction of openness, sustainabliity, and justice.

Although each interview is only 20 minutes long, we've asked candidates to familiarize themselves with our website – as the interviewers will do with the candidate's website if s/he has one.  Interviews are informal, focusing on common goals and approaches to issues.  We hope to get a sense of how candidates deal with complex challenges and conflicting demands.

In reviewing the conversations, interviewers will consider whether each candidate seems to:

  • Have the presence to be effective in a bipartisan or contentious environment
  • Grasp the issues related to our questions and goals
  • Show some creative ideas or solutions to the issues
  • Have skills, experience, and commitments that are a good match with WC CAN's goals for our communities and their governance
